1) Why do you think the top part of the glass is painted black?
ANSWER: so that the light would shine down and not be seen by the German bombers
2) Can you find the part that turned it on? How is it different to switches on modern torches?
ANSWER: It is a wheel and modern torches use press switches
3) Can you think of any other lights that would have needed to have been blacked out?
ANSWER: pretty much every single light you can think of that could be seen from the air! Examples might be street lighhts, car lights and house lights.
